WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Albert Massay grew up on Pike Street in Kitty, Georgetown. His best friend was a boy named Wilfred Cameron, and the two of them got into all manner of shenanigans.
Wilfred's family raised Muscovy ducks. One day the mother duck hatched a brood, and the ducklings came in two different colour schemes. Albert claimed one colour scheme and named those ducklings Speedeet. Wilfred claimed the other and named his Wilar.
Then the games began. The boys would toss a treat on the ground and watch which duckling reached it first. They raced them in pools of water. Every little contest was a chance for one boy to prove his ducklings were quicker than the other's.
Years later, when Albert decided to write books about his childhood, about Pike Street, Kitty and about Wilfred, the choice was easy. The two heroes would carry the names they had given their ducklings, the ones the boys raced and competed with. That is how Speedeet and Wilar came to Pike Street.
The books on Amazon keep the original names, Speedeet & Wilar. When the stories were adapted for YouTube, Speedeet was shortened to Speed, so the show is Speed & Wilar. Same boy, same adventures, just a quicker name for the screen.
The stories never lecture. Friendship, consequences, forgiveness and how to handle a setback come through the adventure itself.
